West Ealing Area Crossrail Works: Information Bulletin Saturday 31 October - Friday 27 November 2015
This bulletin provides local residents with an outline of the work Network Rail and our contractors are undertaking in the coming weeks in your area. All works highlighted in bold may generate some noise or disturbance which residents may notice.
Crossrail works here will change and improve the station, create a new bay platform and enlarge platform 4 on the north side of the station. For more information on this work please visit: http://www.crossrail.co.uk/route/western-section/west-ealing-station
Please note that current works during the day are at a higher noise level than normal and residents may notice them over general background noise.
Saturday 31 October to Friday 6 November
Monday to Sunday daytime 08:00 – 18:00 |
Works in the rail compound at the far west end of Manor Road and the site compound at the east end of Manor Road. |
Sunday morning 05:30 – 07:00 |
Team of workers and more road rail vehicles will arrive and make their way to the west end of Waitrose Car Park where groups of rail vehicles with supporting foot workers will make their way to different points between West Ealing and Hanwell Stations and set up work sites. |
Sunday 07:00 – 08:00 |
A pile, previously half driven into the railway lineside beside West Ealing Station (north of the Waitrose delivery yard) will be hammered to full depth. This will take about 20 mins, only taking longer if there are unexpected ground issues. |
Sunday 08:00 – 09:00 |
The piling rigs will dismount from the track and be reloaded onto lorries to leave the area by 09:30. |
Sunday 09:00 – 22:00 |
Mobile elevated platforms and cranes will continue to work all day so the new overhead line equipment is complete with overhead wires moved to the new supports. |
Weekend nights 21:00 – 22:00 Weekend mornings 09:00 – 10:00 |
Preparation/finishing works for the night shift including starting up plant, moving materials and fences |
Monday to Thursday 22:00 – 05:00 |
Replacement of electrical systems on the track, working east and west from West Ealing. |
Every night of the week |
A low loader (or two) may drop off road rail vehicles at the west end of Manor Road or the Waitrose car park off Alexandria Road in the evening and pick them up the following morning. |
Saturday 7 to Friday 13 November
Monday to Sunday daytime 08:00 – 18:00 |
Works in the rail compound at the far west end of Manor Road and the site compound at the east end of Manor Road. |
Weekend nights 21:00 – 22:00 Weekend mornings 09:00 – 10:00 |
Preparation/finishing works for the night shift including starting up plant and moving materials and fences |
Saturday 22:00 to Monday 04:00 |
Breaking out of concrete and installation of duct routes on platform 4. Excavation works and installation of trench sheets on platform 2/3. |
Saturday 22:00 to Sunday 22:00 |
Use of elevated work platforms and a cable drum carrying machine to alter overhead power lines between Argyle Road and the west end of Felix Road |
Saturday 23:00 to Sunday 06:00 |
Use of 2 rail mounted piling machines (1 vibrating and 1 hammer) to pile foundations for new overhead line system posts on the north side of the railway lines between St Leonards Road bridge and Jacobs Ladder footbridge. This work should take around 3-4 hours. |
Weekdays 21:00 – 06:00 |

Delivery of track sections to the west end of Manor Road by lorry and lifting off by large crane (delivered Saturday daytime). This work requires shutting the rail lines on north side of West Ealing and the Greenford Line to be carried out safely. Delivery of cable ducting to the west end of Manor Road. |
Weekdays 21:00 to 06:00 |
Installation of cable ducting on the main lines (south side) of West Ealing using track trollies and possibly a road rail machine. |

A piling machine on platform 2/3 installing bored piles. |
West Ealing also contains railway depots and places where railway maintenance rail machines can gain access to the track during night shifts. Please note works by these companies and rail bodies are not covered in this Crossrail works bulletin.
Our contractors undertaking the above work are part of the Considerate Constructors Scheme, which includes minimising any environmental impacts and working to reduce the impact on neighbours and the public. Although we aim to undertake works at the above times and dates, at times last minute changes to track closures may result in variations.
